Microbiome Diversity and Metabolic Resilience After Antibiotic Perturbation
Abstract
Using a longitudinal cohort design, this paper studies how microbial diversity affects metabolic recovery after antibiotic disruption. The authors find that recovery speed depends less on total bacterial load than on the reappearance of specific cross-feeding networks that stabilize nutrient processing. The analysis suggests that resilience is an ecological property of the gut system rather than a simple return to baseline abundance.
